Detroiter Scott Gantz, owner of Muscles Cars of Woodward, has a passion and dedication for cars. One facet of Scott’s business is locating a customer’s dream car. Scott and his wife Peggy will also fulfill the dreams of underinsured or uninsured cancer patients at the Karmanos Cancer Institute with their event, Cruise for the Cure.

A friend of the Gantz family was recently diagnosed with breast cancer. An uninsured young mother of four, this friend was devastated by the diagnosis and overwhelmed by mounting medical bills. Peggy and Scott know first hand how difficult cancer can be; Peggy is a two-time cancer survivor. The Gantz family was determined to help cancer patients like their friend.

On July 15, 2006, the first annual Cruise for the Cure united Scott and Peggy’s love of cars with their passion to make a difference in the lives of cancer patients at the Karmanos Cancer Center. On this sunny Saturday morning, classic cars, including a 1968 AMC AMX, a 1973 Z28 Camero, and a 1976 TransAm, paraded down the scorching streets of Pontiac. The cruise concluded at Duggan’s Irish Pub where participants feasted on lunch.

This year’s event raised over $8,000 for underinsured or uninsured patients at the Karmanos Cancer Center.

“It was important to us to give back to the local cancer community,” says Scott, “When you give locally, you can see the results.

Peggy & Scott are hoping next year’s event will attract an even larger crowd. For more information on the second annual Cruise for the Cure, stay tuned to the Karmanos Events Calendar .
